The 56th Annual British Conference on Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) is a firm fixture in the TWI calendar. This year the conference takes place from 5-7 September in Telford, UK.
Find us on Stand E17-19 at the Materials Testing exhibition, which takes place alongside the conference, where we will be showcasing our full matrix capture ultrasonic inspection equipment and our latest NDT training products.
A number of TWI staff will also be presenting papers as part of the conference programme.

Meet the TWI team
Keith Burnage, Senior NDT Lecturer
Keith joined TWI in January 2013 as NDT Lecturer. His areas of expertise include, methods visual inspection, MPI, DPI , radiography including computed radiography, eddy current and ACFM. Keith has an aerospace and industrial background.
Alicia Gonzales, NDT Lecturer
Alicia joined TWI in 2015 after she obtained her PhD from The University of Sheffield, her research was a collaboration project with TWI where she developed a computational model using artificial intelligence to monitor and predict the behaviour of Friction Stir Welding. Alicia currently works as an NDT Lecturer, teaching all the basic techniques, however, her specialism is on advanced NDT techniques which she teaches in both English and Spanish. She is also involved in the development of new training courses such as the blended learning for phased array and TOFD, collaboration projects for NDT research and NDT inspection on site.
Channa Nageswaran, Team Leader
Channa's role is to manage R&D activities in the NDT Section of TWI. Channa's work includes research, development and implementation of technologies for inspection of critical components and structures.
Doug Wylie, Team Leader - NDT Product Development
Doug has 20 years’ experience in non-destructive testing, both in service inspection and training delivery. After starting in the aerospace sector, he now works across a variety of industry sectors covering various NDT methods, with a recent focus on phased array UT of HDPE welds, leading the EU PolyTest project. He is multi-method NDT Level 3 and also Chair of the Membership, Qualification and Education Committee for BINDT, as well as a Council member and Trustee.
Miles Weston, Principal Project Leader - Technical
Miles joined TWI in September 2007 as an Engineering Doctorate student, studying Full Matrix Capture and other ultrasonic signal and image processing techniques. He is based at the NDT Validation Centre TWI Technology Centre in Wales and on becoming a full time employee in September 2011, is now working as a collaborative and single client senior project manager.
TWI staff will also be presenting research papers at the conference.
Eleri Williams is currently an NRN research fellow working on developing an in-situ tensile testing rig for XCT analysis of materials under load. During the conference she will be presenting the latest results of her work and demonstrating the capabilities of the company at the TWI stand.
Ewan Hoyle is presenting on real time ultrasonic inspection of materials with known complex geometry using Virtual Source Aperture (VSA). This has applications where components with curved surfaces, such that direct contact of the ultrasonic probe with the surface is not possible, need to be inspected quickly. The probe is coupled to the array using a fitted wedge/shoe or if the inspected component and probe can be submerged in a couplant.
Georgios Liaptsis is currently a PhD student with Zienkiewicz Centre for Computational Engineering, Swansea University, UK. His PhD topic involves advanced radiographic techniques, reconstruction algorithm development and unconventional scanning geometries. He is presenting a conference paper named “High resolution X-ray volumetric inspection of large planar samples using SART based computed laminography”. His current research interests include various NDT techniques, X-ray tomography and algorithm development.
